What is global higher education?

The article moves from a theorisation of the global scale in higher education and knowledge to critical review actual imaginings practices. Geo-cognitive scales such ‘the global’ or national’ are constituted by three elements: pre-given material structures, interpretations agents, social practices agents. Synchronous networks, time/space compression travel have materially expanded scope for relationality, including world-spanning systems as science, cross-border connections, diffusion ideas models. Potentials multi-scalar understanding ‘thinking through world’ been enhanced. However, these imaginaries not dominant. More prevalent methodological globalism, which displaces national, nationalism, blocks one-world potentials view. In Hobbesian space without relational ethics, is ordered an Anglo-American hegemony, manifest neo-liberal economics, cultural linguistic homogeneity, White Supremacy continuity with colonialism. Methodological globalism facilitates neo-imperial claim intervene anywhere, while nationalism justifies claims superiority obligation engage other. no relations power fixed wholly homogeneous there continuing potential multiple positionality, mutual respect unity-in-diversity.
